If you are looking for alotta yield and a variety that has very good straw strength then Alotta is the variety you have been waiting for! While this variety is considered a special purpose variety (not registered as a CWRS wheat) , its large hard red kernel which may allow it to be sold into alternative markets. It is positioned as a feed/ethanol variety and has been very well received into those markets.
Alotta is a very high yielding special purpose wheat with a large, hard red type kernel. This CWSP has short strong straw with an excellent disease resistance package. Alotta (tested as GP250) is unique in that it is derived from a cross made at the International Centre for Maize and Wheat (CIMMYT) at Toluca, Mexico and is the first of almost 40,000 lines screened by University of Alberta to reach the stage of commercial release. Alotta is suitable to all growing regions of western Canada.
We have heard very positive feedback from our customers on both the yield and feed value of Alotta. We have heard that poultry really enjoys Alotta wheat as a feed source.
