New! AAC Frontier Durum - new for 2027 - first Ergot Resistant Durum in Canada

SeCan | Performance Data

End the yield vs. disease compromise in durum once and for all. **Available fall 2026 for 2027 crop year**

Get ready for a game-changer in Prairie durum production—AAC Frontier is the breakthrough Canada Western Amber Durum (CWAD) variety from Dr. Yuefeng Ruan and the AAFC durum breeding team at the Swift Current Research and Development Centre in Saskatchewan.

AAC Frontier delivers impressive yield potential alongside groundbreaking disease protection: it's the first registered Canadian durum with true Resistant (R) rating to ergot—a massive win against the No. 2 downgrading threat after Fusarium—and boasts an Intermediate (I) Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance rating, one of the strongest available in the CWAD class (on par with AAC Schrader) for significantly lower DON accumulation. Add in a rust package with Resistant (R) ratings to leaf, stem, and stripe rust, and shorter-to-medium height, Frontier could be a great fit for your farm.

Expect premium end-use quality too: low cadmium levels, strong protein levels, and high falling numbers - perfect for the global buyers demand.

With mid-season maturity similar to current checks, AAC Frontier is ideally suited to the core durum belts of southern Saskatchewan and Alberta.

For growers who demand maximum bushels, protection against the two of the biggest grading risks, and uncompromised premium quality, AAC Frontier is poised to set a new standard in durum performance.

We are excited to have a new variety of durum that checks so many quality boxes! Watch for its release this fall.
