The word is out! Our customers have been extremely happy with their yields and results with Esma Barley! ESMA is an exciting new variety from Secan for Canada that provides exceptional grain yield and straw strength. Excellent choice for irrigation or high fertility environments. However, also looks good in dryland trials.
Coming out of Europe this variety fits the bill as an excellent feed barley.
Esma is a very strong strawed, short barley with a lot of yield potential. At 20 cm shorter than CDC Austension with 4-5% more yield potential we expect Esma to be winning combination.
Esma is a day or two later than CDC Austenson.
In addition to its feed value, it provides good characteristics for malting.
Requires the grower to sign a VUA agreement.
We see ESMA as being a perfect fit for farmers with irrigation in southern Alberta who are looking for high yields and standability in an intensive operation.
