CDC Bow Barley

SeCan | Technical Bulletin | Performance Data

This 2 row barley yields and stands like Austenson but has been underestimated as a feed variety by many growers because it has been classified as a "malt". Suitable for high fertility and dryland environments.

CDC Bow is a high yielding two row barley with large plump kernels, excellent straw stength and lower grain protein. It stands and yields as well as Austenson in high fertility situations where lodging could be an issue.

  • Yields similar or close to CDC Austenson in high yield settings.
  • Straw strength greater than the checks including Xena
  • Higher % plump kernels than the checks
  • Grain protein 8/10% lower than AC Metcalfe, similar to CDC Copeland
  • Low malt β-glucan,
  • Test weight and kernel weight greater than the checks
  • Resistant to covered smut and stem rust

We believe that Bow, with it's large plump kernels and heavy bushel weight, is an excellent variety for feed markets.
