It was an exciting time for me at the ABCSG AGM in February because Dad (Lawrence) received his 60 year service award. But I was also excited to be recognized by the seed growers with the Bill Witbeck award at the same meeting !

I have only been a seed grower for 20 years but I feel like those years have been so rewarding with the connections I have made in the industry and the customers I get to help every year with seed. It was a real honor to receive the award and to be able to share the day with my husband Don and my Mom & Dad.

The write-up for the award is below:

Originally from Taber, AB, Kelly left the family farm to pursue a bachelor of commerce degree and later a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation. After working in the corporate sector for several years in Alberta and Ontario, she and her husband Don Hubble returned to Taber in the early 2000s to help out with the family seed business and settle into a more family-oriented life with their two children.

Since then, Kelly has maintained a strong leadership role in the certified seed sector, as a certified grower and grader, a select grower, a business owner and an advocate for independent seed growers across Canada.

In 2008, Kelly and Don purchased the family pedigreed seed and birdseed business from her parents and launched Chin Ridge Seeds Ltd., which they continue to operate today.

Two years later, Chin Ridge joined with 13 other independent seed grower organizations to create SeedNet, a company focused on farmers helping farmers by providing high quality seed and farm inputs.

In the last two decades, Kelly has served in many executive roles helping shape the future direction of the Canadian Seed industry at some of its most critical times. These roles have included president, vice president, and most recently treasurer of SeedNet, as well as a director for SeCan, a position she held for eight years.

Kelly and Don are currently based in Taber, where they maintain strong relationships within the local community. In addition to her professional roles, Kelly also serves the board of the Taber and District Health Foundation and organizes regular events with the Taber Arts Society.

Kelly is grateful for all the relationships she has built throughout her tenure in the seed industry and credits her parents with providing much support and mentorship throughout her journey.
