Comparing AAC Wildfire and AAC Coldfront Winter Wheat

When you have two great varieties, sometimes it is hard to pick between them. That's the way it is with AAC Wildfire and AAC Coldfront! However, here are our top 5 differences between the two varieties.

1) AAC Wildfire for top Dryland yield: AAC Wildfire just edges out Coldfront for yield in the Alberta seed guide in low yield settings (e.g. dryland). As a result and based on our experience, we would likely recommend AAC Wildfire versus AAC Coldfront on dryland, unless disease issues have been a problem in the area - see point 4 .

2) AAC Coldfront for top irrigation yield: AAC Coldfront edges out Wildfire for yield under irrigation or in higher moisture situations.

3) AAC Coldfront for better standability: AAC Coldfront is considered "Very Good" for lodging and is a little shorter than Wildfire. AAC Wildfire is considered "Good" for lodging, so again in those more intensive irrigation type farming areas, Coldfront is likely a better choice for standability.

4) Differences in Disease Resistance: AAC Coldfront for excellent disease resistance to rust and in our experience AAC Coldfront seems to have less disease in the field than AAC Wildfire. However, Wildfire is rated better for fusarium resistance and Bunt resistance.

5) Other factors: AAC Wildfire has a heavier seed weight and is 2 day longer maturing than Coldfront.
